Five years in, and plenty more on the horizon

Kane Lakin was our first technical hire. Five years on, the team took him out to say thanks properly, and we've a feeling it won't be the last time.

The short version
Kane Lakin was our first technical hire. Five years later he's still here, still growing, and this week the whole team took him out to say thanks properly. This one's just for him.

Five years ago

Kane joined as our first technical employee. Small company, first proper hire on the technical side, the kind of decision that either goes well for a very long time, or doesn't.

Five years on, he's grown with the business, and it's been genuinely good to watch. A different person to the one who started, in the way you want someone to be different after five years somewhere.

Thank you, Kane

There are still days we look at you like "mate, what are you even on about", closely followed by days where it's "how the hell did you just do that". Honestly, both happen in about equal measure, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

You're a key part of the helpdesk and installs team, our customers genuinely rate you, and, on the whole, so do we (only joking, mate). Five years in, still here, still improving. Thank you for everything so far.

What that means for you

If you're a client, it means the person who knows your setup this year is likely the same person who'll know it next year, and the year after. No handover notes, no "let me just get up to speed," no relearning your business from scratch every twelve months.

It means the voice on the phone or the face at the door is familiar, because it's the same one you had last time, and the time before that. You're not re-explaining your setup, your quirks, or your history with us to someone new every few months.

That's rarer in this industry than it should be. We'd like to keep it that way, and it's not a one-off: in ten years of trading we've had one technical person leave, and he came back. Going by that record, we're fairly confident there's more to come.

thanks, Kane
Five years in. Here's to plenty more.
Same people, year after year, is part of how we work, not a nice extra. It's why SMB Plus clients get consistency alongside everything else that's included as standard.
